## About
The Country Guessing Game hides one of 194 countries. Type a country as a guess and you are told how far its centre is from the mystery country, which direction to head in, and how close you are, shown as a hot-to-cold colour bar. Use the clues to home in on the answer in as few guesses as possible. Play unlimited rounds, or the daily country that is the same for everyone on a given date, and switch between kilometres and miles. It is a free way to practise world geography.

## How to use
1. Type the name of a country and press Guess. Pick it from the list as you type.
2. You are shown the distance from your guess to the mystery country, an arrow showing which direction to head, and a colour bar that goes from cold blue to hot red as you get closer.
3. Use each clue to narrow down the answer. Stuck? Press Hint to see the region of the world, or Give up to see the answer.
4. Choose Unlimited for a new random country whenever you like, or Daily country for the same country everyone gets that day. Switch between kilometres and miles at any time.

## FAQ
**How do you play the country guessing game?** Guess countries by name. Each guess shows how far it is from the mystery country, which way to head and how close you are with a colour bar.

**How is the distance measured?** It is the great-circle distance between the central points of the two countries, using the Haversine formula, shown in kilometres or miles.

**Is there a daily country?** Yes. Choose Daily country for one that is the same for everyone on a given date, or use Unlimited for as many rounds as you like.

**Does the game have a map?** No. It uses distance, direction and a colour bar instead of a map, which keeps it quick and accessible on phones.

**Where does the country data come from?** From the open world-countries dataset (ODbL licence), which lists the names, flags, regions and central coordinates of independent countries.

**Is the Country Guessing Game (Distance and Direction) free?** Yes, with no sign-up or limits.
