The Mulch, Soil and Compost Volume Calculator turns the size of a bed and the depth you want into the volume to order, in cubic metres, litres, cubic feet and cubic yards, plus the number of bags. You can add a waste allowance for settling and spillage. Typical depths are 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inches) for mulch, 10 to 15 cm for topsoil on a new bed and 2.5 to 5 cm for a top dressing of compost.
