Nanny Share Cost Splitter (Split by Hours and Children)

Split a nanny or sitter’s cost fairly between two families by hours of care and number of children. Free, private and instant.

How to use the Nanny Share Cost Splitter (Split by Hours and Children)

  1. Enter the nanny’s total weekly cost, including any employer costs.
  2. Enter hours and number of children for each family.
  3. Choose how to split: by hours, by children or by hours × children.
  4. Add what a family would pay on its own to see the weekly saving.

Example

Worked example (£700 a week, Family A 40 h and 1 child, Family B 40 h and 2 children)

  • Split by hours: £350.00 each
  • Split by children: A pays £233.33, B pays £466.67
  • Hours × children: A pays £233.33, B pays £466.67
  • Saving with a solo cost of £560: A saves £210.00 by hours

Limitations

  • The calculator does not know your tax rules, and shared employment can mean one family is the legal employer.
  • It treats every child and every hour equally. Many shares charge a slightly lower rate per child, which you can agree between you.
  • Overlapping hours when both families’ children are present should be agreed as a rule, because it changes which method is fair.
