How to use the Face Shape Detector
- Choose a clear, front-facing photo with your hair off your forehead, a neutral expression and good light. The photo is read in your browser and is not uploaded.
- The first time, the face detector downloads a few megabytes, then it finds your face and measures the forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length.
- Read your estimated face shape, the ratios behind it and the styling ideas. Lines are drawn on your photo so you can see what was measured.
- No photo? Open Enter four measurements instead, measure your face in the same unit, and press Find my face shape.
Example
Worked example (fictional measurements in centimetres, classified by this tool’s rules)
- Forehead 12.6, cheekbones 14.0, jaw 11.9, length 19.6: Face length is 1.40 times the cheekbone width, so the estimate is Oblong
- Forehead 13.0, cheekbones 13.8, jaw 12.6, length 17.0: Length 1.23, jaw 0.91, forehead 0.94: the jaw is nearly as wide as the cheekbones with a moderate length, so the estimate is Square
- Forehead 13.6, cheekbones 14.0, jaw 10.6, length 17.5: Forehead 0.97 against jaw 0.76: the forehead is much wider than the jaw, so the estimate is Heart
Limitations
- This is an estimate from ratio rules, not a scientific or medical measurement. Many faces sit between two shapes, and the rules were not checked against a labelled set of faces.
- Head tilt, expression, hair over the forehead, glasses, lens distortion from a close camera and strong shadows all change the measurements.
- The face-landmark model works best on a single, well-lit, front-facing face. If more than one face is found, only the first is used.
- The face-detection library comes from jsDelivr and the model file from Google Cloud Storage. Those servers see a normal file download, but your photo is never sent to them or to ToolStack Hub.
- Face shape categories describe general proportions only. They say nothing about health, identity or attractiveness, and styling ideas are suggestions rather than rules.

About this tool
The Face Shape Detector estimates your face shape from a front-facing photo. A face-landmark model finds points on your face inside your browser, the tool measures the forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length, and a simple set of ratio rules suggests oval, round, square, oblong, heart or diamond. If you prefer not to use a photo, you can type four measurements instead. The photo is not uploaded to ToolStack Hub.

Face Shape Detector is part of ToolStack Hub's Image Tools. Your photo is analysed in your browser and is not uploaded to ToolStack Hub. When you first analyse a photo, your browser downloads the face-detection library from jsDelivr and the model file from Google Cloud Storage, which receive a normal file request but not your photo. There is nothing to install and no account to create. There is no usage limit.
Guides about this tool
Frequently asked questions
What face shapes does the detector recognise?
Oval, round, square, oblong (rectangle), heart and diamond, which are the six categories most commonly used in styling and eyewear guides.
How does it detect my face shape?
A face-landmark model finds hundreds of points on your face in the browser. The tool measures the forehead, cheekbone and jaw widths and the face length, divides them by the cheekbone width and applies simple rules to choose a shape.
Is my photo uploaded or stored?
No. The photo is processed in your browser. Only the detector library and model file are downloaded from third-party servers, and your photo never leaves your device.
How accurate is it?
It is an estimate. The rules are simple ratios that we have not validated against a set of labelled faces, so use the result as a starting point rather than a verdict.
Can I find my face shape without a photo?
Yes. Measure the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw and the length of your face in the same unit, enter them in the manual section, and the same rules give you a shape.
How do I take a good photo for the detector?
Use even light, look straight at the camera from arm’s length, keep your hair off your forehead, relax your face and avoid tilting your head.
Is the Face Shape Detector free?
Yes. Face Shape Detector is completely free with no sign-up, limits or watermarks.
Is my data private when I use the Face Shape Detector?
Your photo is analysed in your browser and is not uploaded to ToolStack Hub. When you first analyse a photo, your browser downloads the face-detection library from jsDelivr and the model file from Google Cloud Storage, which receive a normal file request but not your photo.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. ToolStack Hub tools work on phones, tablets and desktop browsers.
