How to use the Letter Grid Word Game (Find Words by Connecting Letters)

  1. Press New grid. A grid of letters appears and the timer starts.
  2. Make a word by clicking letters that touch each other, including diagonally, or by typing it. Each square can be used once per word. Press Enter to submit.
  3. Words need at least four letters. Four-letter words score 1 point, five letters 2, six letters 3, seven letters 5 and eight or more letters 11.
  4. When time is up, you see your score, how many words were possible and the longest words you missed. Choose a 4 × 4 or 5 × 5 grid and a time limit.

Example

Worked example (fictional grid)

  • Row 1: C A T S: The word CATS can be made along the top row: C, A, T and S touch each other in a line
  • Using a diagonal: If an A is diagonally next to a T, you can build the word by moving diagonally
  • Scoring: CATS is a four-letter word, so 1 point; a seven-letter word would score 5 points

Limitations

  • Each grid is generated at random and the game checks it holds at least 30 words (4 × 4) or 60 words (5 × 5).
  • The word list contains about 64,000 English words of four or more letters, with offensive words removed. A rare real word may be rejected, and the list includes some uncommon words and plural and verb forms.
  • Spelling follows the word list, which mixes British and American forms.
  • Q is not used in the grid, to keep words findable.
  • This is an independent game and is not affiliated with any publisher or other game of a similar style.
